Jellyfish in Israel: when the season is and how to check
The jellyfish swarm is a fixed part of the Israeli summer. Here’s what to know about the season, what to do about a sting, and how to check the situation before you go.
In the Mediterranean, the jellyfish swarm usually reaches Israel’s beaches in the summer months — typically between June and August — but the timing changes year to year and depends on currents and winds. There is no fixed "map": jellyfish can appear at one beach and be absent at a neighbouring one on the same day.
That’s exactly why we don’t fabricate a jellyfish status for each beach. Instead, the app shows live community jellyfish reports — beachgoers reporting in real time what they see in the water. Before you go, check the community reports on the beach page and the map, and also the national jellyfish tracker.
For a jellyfish sting: get out of the water, don’t rub the area, and rinse with sea water (not fresh water). You can gently remove any remaining tentacles. Most stings pass on their own, but if there is difficulty breathing, dizziness or an unusual reaction — get to the lifeguard or medical help immediately.
